yellow walls

"eventually" she said
"you'll get out of here
you won't be swallowed up in this place
that reeks of doctors
medicine and restraint,
you'll do fine- i can see it in your face"

"eventually" she said
"you're gonna be something
i can tell you only play insane
maybe if you just
tell them the truth for once
you'll find a way to end this useless pain"

"eventually" she said
"you'll escape the past
and not be imprisoned here the way i am
you've got years to
fill with better things
and you'll make it because you know you can"

eventually , she said
eventually, i believed
because we both needed something to talk about
a way to fill the
constant countdown until
they said it. you're out

eventually doesn't erase
scars climbing up my arms
doesn't add more than just skin on my bones
it doesn't take away burns or
make the future seem closer,
and when she stopped talking i just felt
all that more alone.
